Mirai of the second generation will be able to store 5.6 kg of hydrogen in three tanks, which is more than 4.6 kg inherent in its predecessor. The design of the car implies the presence of three tanks for storing hydrogen, one of them is located under the floor of the cabin in the area of the central tunnel. After a generational change, the Mirai power plant increased the output from 114 to 128 kW, while the space occupied by it decreased from 33 to 24 liters. Along the way, it will be necessary to develop a filling network, but there are not so many relevant initiatives now compared to the same charging stations for electric vehicles. In Japan itself, for example, now there are no more than 127 hydrogen filling stations, and according to the country’s government, for the convenience of operating the corresponding machines, their number should be increased to 900, at least.
Even if Mirai does not allow Toyota to gain a significant share of the passenger car market with next-generation power plants, the corporation will be able to use the gained experience in the creation of freight and rail transport on hydrogen fuel cells.
