NVIDIA quietly unveils GeForce GT 1010 — Pascal GP108 with 2GB GDDR5 and 55W TDP
Apparently, NVIDIA has not yet completely said goodbye to the Pascal architecture. A few days ago, the company quietly launched the GeForce GT 1010 graphics accelerator. Now search by name of the map gives few results. However GT 1010 is listed on the official NVIDIA driver download page. What is this card and when will it be possible to buy it?
NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
The first message that the GT 1010 actually exists came from a YouTube video by Dapz who accidentally noticed the card’s name on the NVIDIA driver download page. The blogger contacted NVIDIA support via chat, and they gave an affirmative answer that such a card exists. However, the spokesperson added that the card has not yet been released to the market and has not named an expected launch date.
Resource TechPowerUp published the characteristics of NVIDIA GeForce GT 1010. According to the website, the GT 1010 is based on the 14nm GP108 GPU. This crystal has an area of 74 mm2 and includes 1.8 billion transistors. Basically, the GT 1010 is the same accelerator as the GT 1030, with some CUDA cores disabled. While the GT 1030 offers 384 CUDA cores, the GT 1010 only offers 256 (i.e. two streaming multiprocessors running).
GT 1010 is equipped with 2 GB of GDDR5 video memory, working through a 64-bit interface. GPU base frequency is 1228 MHz and can be bumped up to 1468 MHz in Turbo mode. In addition, the card has 16 texture units (TMU), 16 raster operations units (ROP) and has a TDP of only 55 W, that is, it can operate from a PCIe slot without connecting external power connectors.
It is not yet clear if the GT 1010 will be available only to OEMs (which is most likely) or will go to retail. While such a stripped-down accelerator based on the legacy Pascal architecture may seem strange in 2021, NVIDIA thinks differently and sees a potential market for it. Perhaps we will also see the GeForce GT 1020, which will complete the nomenclature of the series?
