TSMC will release 5nm processors for Intel this year, and 3nm processors next year
Later this month, Intel CEO Robert Swan will be honored to reveal the company’s plans to use contractors’ facilities to manufacture advanced lithographic components. Experts expect TSMC to launch 5nm Core i3 processors this year, followed by 3nm processors next year.

A similar forecast was published by representatives of TrendForce. The source reports that now about 15–20% of Intel products that are not related to the segment of central processors are entrusted to the production of TSMC and UMC. In principle, Intel itself has not abstained from such assessments for several quarters in a row, but rumors regularly draw the South Korean company Samsung Electronics into the orbit of its interests, which needs to strengthen its contract business.
TrendForce experts claim that an agreement has already been reached with TSMC to release 5nm Intel Core i3 processors in the second half of this year. Such predictions sound quite unexpected, albeit not for the first time, since the processor giant itself is still considering the possibility of releasing only 10nm consumer-class central processors.
Representatives of TrendForce are not limited to this. They argue that TSMC may launch mid-to-high-end CPUs for Intel in the second half of next year using 3nm technology. TSMC is indeed ready to start mass production of 3nm products from the third quarter of next year, but they are unlikely to be as complex from the start as Intel’s solutions in the upper price range.
It cannot be ruled out that the collaboration between Intel and TSMC in the direction of central processing units will focus on the release of separate crystals for processors using a heterogeneous layout. TSMC does not hide the fact that it is ready to offer its customers services for mounting crystals in complex layout solutions, so Intel can use them if necessary. Outsourcing some of the processor manufacturing, according to the source, will help Intel focus on those activities that provide the highest margins and optimize capital expenditures.
