Scientists from the University of Tokyo conducted an experiment to assess the memory of students who used pen and paper, a tablet with a pen, or a smartphone in the learning process. It turns out that paper and pen are best for learning, not modern digital technology.
For the experiment, the researchers formed three groups of subjects from 48 students and recent school graduates aged 18-29 years. One group used a pen and paper notebook for work, another — a tablet and a pen, the third — a smartphone with an on-screen keyboard. All test subjects were read the material with a plan of work and lessons for the next two months. Then each of the groups was asked to present what they heard on paper, in an application on a tablet and in a calendar on a smartphone, after which an hour break was taken to distract from the topic.

It took them 11 minutes, while tablet users took 14 minutes and smartphone owners 16 minutes.
