Scientists from Sweden have proposed something better than copper heat pipes for removing heat from electronic components, an essential element of effective cooling systems. Instead of copper, it was proposed to use graphene — the increase in the efficiency of heat removal will be up to 3.5 times. The development was presented by scientists from the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, in the creation of which they were helped by colleagues from Italy and China. The heat pipe made of a graphene heat-conducting shell is light and soft, therefore it is reinforced from the inside with a metal spring and longitudinal carbon fibers, which allows it to keep its shape and ensure free circulation of coolant and vapors.

Indeed, in the experiment set up with a graphene heat pipe 150 mm long and 6 mm outer diameter, the heat transfer coefficient turned out to be about 3.5 times better than that of a similar heat pipe based on copper.
Such tubes are unlikely to get into the cooling systems of desktop PCs, but they may well be registered in thin laptops if the development reaches commercial implementation.
