In automotive electronics, RAM is used for the release of four product categories: infotainment systems, driver assistance systems (ADAS), telemetry collection / transmission devices, as well as for servicing digital clusters in the form of a dashboard and nodes. The main consumers of DRAM chips are multimedia electronics and ADAS. Moreover, the second will grow faster, since driver assistance systems have greater potential for growth (AI, sensors, autopilots, etc.).
The rapid growth in memory consumption by entertainment systems is due to a simple reason — they do not require particularly strict certification, unlike the same driver assistance systems. Today, on average, such systems use 1-2 GB of RAM, but the increase in the resolution of integrated displays and the introduction of a wealth of functions are pushing developers to increase the amount of on-board memory in infotainment electronics to 4-8 GB.
