The launch of fifth generation cellular networks in Russia is delayed due to difficulties with the allocation of frequencies. The priority spectrum for 5G is 3.4-3.8 GHz, but it is occupied by various special services and law enforcement agencies. Therefore, while Russian cellular operators are testing fifth-generation communications in other bands: 25.25-27.5 GHz and 4.9 GHz, however, they can only be used as additional to the main range. At the end of July, MTS announced that it received the first license in Russia for the provision of 5G / IMT-2021 mobile communication services in the 24.25-24.65 GHz range in 83 regions of the country. Sustainable coverage of the network of such a connection of 10 million-plus cities should be provided by 2022, and in all 15 cities of Russia with a population of 1 million or more — by 2024.
